Dr. Aaron Robert’s Brings Water Pollution Research to Future Scientists

Dr. Robert’s engaging second-grade students with research on the effects of water pollution on fish species

RECOVER co-PI Dr. Aaron Roberts, based at the University of North Texas in the University of North Texas College of Science, brought pollution into the classroom. This week, Dr. Robert’s visited a local elementary school in the Denton, Texas area, where he met 100 eager second graders. He presented his research and the work being conducted to understand the effects of water pollution on fish species. Dr. Robert’s was able to translate the science to an easily understood language for the second graders, as well as utilized STEM-based demonstrations to communicate the science.

The future scientists were engaged throughout and asked wonderful thoughtful questions at the end of the presentation. Dr. Robert’s did a great job communicating complex science to these young students and fostering a positive relationship and experience to science and STEM-related fields.
